Summer fun for Residents

Over the past few weeks, a whole host of activities have been arranged for residents by Jigsaw’s Neighbourhoods team alongside Jigsaw Support to create an exciting, memorable summer.

Residents shined like stars as they competed in Gibson’s Got Talent at Gibson Terrace, Jigsaw’s Supported Temporary Accommodation in Ashton last week. A total of 13 children each took to the stage to show off their skills – from budding artists, comedians, dancers and even Rubix cube experts.

Resident, Tiana, was eventually crowned winner for her lovely dance routine and then all residents joined together and enjoyed food provided by Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team.

In North Manchester, residents put needle to thread as they took part in a six week sewing class organised by Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Officer Tanuja Patel as they learned how to sew using a machine.

Taking place in partnership with community group Rainbow Surprise in Crumpsall, 15 women attended the bi-weekly classes and learned a variety of skills that helped them to create items of clothing by following sewing patterns.

They also received an AQA qualification once they had completed the course and will now continue to sew more clothing for their local community.

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team also held a stall at the community event HurstFest at Cedar Park in Ashton to create grass seed heads with children.

The community event was organised by Ashton United in the Community, Save the Children and Smallshaw Hurst Community Action Group. Our team offered parents and carers information on energy advice, Jigsaw Rewards, training opportunities, employment advice and much more.
