Residents Take to the Stage for Khushi Project

Residents from Ashton showcased their theatrical performance Mausum Ke Rang (The Colourful Seasons) last week as part of Khushi project at Manchester Museum and Oldham Coliseum.

Minaz Aslam, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, worked with Oldham Coliseum and Holy Trinity Community Centre to deliver the 10 week Khushi project which highlights work inspired by South Asian communities.

The theatre piece ‘Mausum Ke Rang’ was created by women of the Indian Association, Jigsaw Homes and the Women’s CHAI project and was assisted by professional actor Perveen Hussain.

The groups focused on the theme ‘health and wellbeing’ and explored what it meant to them, as well as writing poems about what makes them happy and the beauty that surrounds them everyday.

The women then selected music and created their own dance piece to express the joy felt by moving and celebrating together.

One resident said: It has really helped to boost confidence.  Especially for those with limited English, being part of this project and the support they have received means that they can try something that they have never experienced before.”
