The Ridgeway Street Wellbeing Garden is now open to residents at the Ridgeway Street Community Garden. Manchester Urban Diggers and North Manchester BUZZ community health service opened the Wellbeing Garden concept with Church of the Apostles.
Greater Manchester Community Health Wellbeing Fund has funded the project which will allow them to deliver a weekly gardening club every Friday until 13 December 2019.
The new garden club provides a welcoming environment where any adults have a space to grow, learn, share and relax. The aim is to improve the long-term mental wellness, capacity and inclusion of those who regularly attend. Throughout the year it will include a programme of activities.
At the open day, people contributed ideas for activities and produce over a BBQ and pressing apples straight from the orchard on site. They also welcomed newly-installed wall art as inspiration for their ideas and are now keen to spread the word about the Wellbeing Garden throughout the community.
Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Rosemary Grant-Muller, will continue to support the garden club as a partner. Her aim is now to submit the project to next year’s North West In Bloom Awards.

The Ridgeway Street Community Garden was established in Miles Platting in spring 2001. The garden is supported and maintained by members of the local community. Their aim is to create a healthy outdoor space that is a focus for the whole community and can be used to promote natural gardening methods. It also helps to foster communication skills and co-operation with children and young people in the area.
