National Energy Action’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, which aims to support the six million households across the UK affected by fuel poverty, was held last week.
Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team hosted a range of events throughout our communities and handed out more than 300 winter warmer packs to help our vulnerable residents stay warm this winter.
The packs contained essentials such as a thermal hat, gloves and socks, tea, soup, a room temperature card and a shower timer alongside energy advice and money advice booklets.
Officers Minaz Aslam, John McGlynn, Gemma Batchelor, Joanne Shaw, Tracy Townson, Julie Frazer and Asmina Choudhury gave out packs to residents at
– Ashton Grocers,
– Dukinfield Pantry,
– Cheetham Hill’s Irish World Heritage Centre,
– Springs Hub in Stalybridge alongside the Big Local and The Bread and Butter Thing,
– Welcome Hub Methodist Church Coppull,
– The Neighbourhood Project, Harpurhey,
– Anchor Mill, Oldham
while also highlighting essential energy advice to help reduce energy bills. Minaz also referred 10 residents for further energy support from our partner agencies.
In Nottingham, Officer Martin Curtis ran a stall at Netherfield Primary School and handed out practical items including door stoppers, throws and duvet covers to parents and carers while also providing energy advice.
Paula Taylor, Deputy Head at Netherfield Primary School, said “Thank you so much for providing these bags. I know some families who are particularly struggling at the moment.”
Resident Mrs Barker, who received a winter warmer pack at the Ashton Grocer, said: “This is so kind of Jigsaw, they are a great landlord and really do care – thank you.”
Resident Miss Hollingsworth from Ridge Hill said: “It’s good to know there is help available and somewhere to go for help if I do start to struggle.”
