Residents of Sherdley Court, Jigsaw’s Over 55’s Scheme in Crumpsall, were invited to Crumpsall Lane Primary School to dig into a planting event at the school’s new sensory garden.
The sensory garden was originally a neglected piece of land on the school grounds opposite Sherdley Court but it was revived over the summer holidays by the Jigsaw Homes Groundworks team and transformed into a beautiful space for all to enjoy.
Gemma Batchelor, Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Clair Morris, Scheme Co-ordinator, and Matthew Brown, Inclusion Officer, organised the event with the teachers of Crumpsall Lane Primary School and invited the residents of Sherdley Court and parents of the nursery children to participate.
Around 15 people attended, and they enjoyed a hot drink, planted bulbs ready for the springtime, took a plant pot home and created extra pots to sell at the school winter fair.
The event allowed residents to not only chat and share experiences with the younger generation but also created opportunities for different generations to build connections and feel a valued part of their community.
Gemma Batchelor said: “We had a fantastic turn out for our first intergenerational event and our residents, parents and children all had a wonderful time together in the sensory garden. We are in the process of planning for a Christmas wreath making event due to the success of this one.
“I’d like to give a special thanks to Crumpsall Lane Primary School for being so accommodating, to Clair Morris for encouraging the residents of Sherdley Court to attend and try something new and to Matthew Brown for coming along to support the event.”
