Shared Ownership – the way onto the property ladder

Shared Ownership – the way onto the property ladder

Shared Ownership is proving to be an ideal way to get onto the housing ladder; with many saying it was their only route to owning their own property.

If you can’t quite afford the mortgage on 100% of a home,  Shared Ownership offers you the chance to buy a share of your home (Initially between 25% and 75% of the home’s value) and pay rent on the remaining share. Later on, you can buy further shares or purchase your property outright.

John Welland and his family in St Helens, were first-time buyers, they had heard about Shared Ownership, but didn’t know what to expect.   This is their story.

“We have lived in St Helens all our lives and in Sutton Manor for the last 13 years; we really like the area – but myself and my family had outgrown our rented house and so needed a larger property.

I  heard about Shared Ownership through Snugg Homes; we saw some of the Shared Ownership homes being built in the area and so went along to an open day. We really liked the show house and so talked to the sales staff about Shared Ownership, they cleared up a few things and it really made sense.

It was the ideal time for us to move but we didn’t have enough money saved up to purchase a house the conventional way – it would have taken us at least another 3-4 years, so we made the decision to go with Shared Ownership and get onto the property ladder a lot quicker!

There were a few occasions when I had to call the office; the sales staff were very friendly and if they couldn’t answer the questions I had, they would either pass me through to Laura the sales manager, or, get her to call me back – and she always called back soon after.

As we neared completion the Covid-19 virus was speeding through the country; Laura had to self isolate and we were unsure if we would be able to complete before the country went into lockdown. Laura went out of her way to make sure we could complete on-time and get the keys. We got the keys on Monday 23rd march at about 13:30, as agreed.  That evening, the country went into lockdown.

Now, thanks to Shared Ownership, we have the security of owning our own home. We love the house, it feels spacious and it’s been built to a high standard.  We absolutely love the kitchen, we feel incredibly lucky and very proud to part own the house.

I don’t think there are many companies out there that would have done what Snugg homes have done, we are very grateful for everything Laura and all the staff have done, thank you.” John Welland, St Helens.

Snugg Homes have Shared Ownership properties throughout the North West:
Coppull, Chorley, Lowton, Cheshire,  Preston, Little Eccleston, KeighleyRibble Valley,  Southport,  St Helens  & many more.

Who knows, one of them could be your perfect home…
